Oxalis Design

Our Skills and Expertise

Electronics Design & PCB Development

Electronics hardware design is at the heart of what we do – schematic capture and PCB development, often using advanced design techniques, high density layouts, ultra-miniaturised designs, and flexible PCBs.

Embedded Software

Our in-house software capabilities across C/C++ firmware development and a wealth of embedded platforms and RTOSs mean that we’re well positioned to develop end-to-end integrated electronics solutions.

IoT & Wireless Connectivity

Bluetooth Low Energy, WiFi, Thread, Matter, NB-IoT, cellular, LoRa, and most recently, NTN direct-to-satellite communications. Our capabilities range from RF design and antenna tuning to regulatory compliance.

Innovation & Development

Being an agile team allows us to quickly test ideas, develop proof-of-concept demonstrators, and rapidly iterate designs using off-the-shelf platforms.

Electromechanical Systems

Integrating electronics with mechanical systems is a key competency at Oxalis, including motor control algorithms, control system design, and automation.

App & Cloud Integration

Wireless cloud integration, architecting cloud services, and developing front-end Android applications are all within our in-house capabilities.

Why Work With Us?

It’s not just a tagline; we are truly passionate about what we do. We all got our start in electronics through tinkering and hobbies growing up, and have since developed our skills as makers and engineers through more than 25 years of collective experience working in the consulting industry. As well as our individual passions for electronics, we are all keen to work on projects that tie into our personal interests; involving anything from an early idea to bringing products into people’s hands.

Early Concept & Innovation

We’re here to help with your ideation, initial proof-of-concept, or even just to run your ideas past us. Being an agile team means we can innovate rapidly to develop an idea.

Prototyping, Development & Test

Early stage prototyping, product development, and design iteration are our bread and butter, whether it’s the next generation of an existing product, early conceptualisation, or a custom test setup for a production line.

Full Product Lifecycle & DFM

With experience in each stage of electronics development, we can guide taking your design to market. Optimising an existing design, starting a new development cycle, or anything in between – we have the expertise to help.

Nordic Design Partnership

Oxalis has worked with Nordic Semiconductor devices and software platforms where low-power operation, long-term support, and a stable embedded software ecosystem are critical. Joining the Nordic Partner Program was a natural extension of our existing working relationship, and allows us to keep ahead of the curve with new technology, releases, and support.

Case Study: PEBL

Driven by the mission to make ocean data accessible through cost effective solutions, PEBL set out to create a versatile sensing platform capable of supporting a wide range of marine monitoring applications using the different products in their portfolio. To achieve this they sought a long-term technical partner who could standardise and scale their electronic product development while staying flexible to expanding sensors and application requirements. Oxalis collaborated with PEBL to establish a unified hardware and software platform that enables consistent performance across the different product variants.

The Delivery

Oxalis designed the high-density interconnect (HDI) electronic hardware platform and the on-board firmware to control and manage the system. In addition, image and video capture software was created, enabling collected data to be processed locally and be stored or transmitted to the cloud via satellite. As new sensors and capabilities are introduced, Oxalis continues to support their integration into the existing platform, ensuring long-term maintainability.

Continued Product Support

Building on the core architecture of the product, Oxalis is continually developing an expanding suite of sensors and environmental monitoring solutions for use in demanding marine environments, including 4G LTE, solar charging, power over ethernet (PoE), Wi-Fi, Ethernet, optical sensing turbidity sensing, high-definition video recording and actuator control, as part of Oxalis’ commitment to on-going client and project support.

Case Study: Lumenate Nova

Lumenate’s mission is to make wellbeing experiences accessible through safe and informed technology. By combining light-induced neural entrainment with audio and guided journeys, Lumenate aims to help users explore a deep state of relaxation, creativity, and emotional well-being. After being trusted by over a million users worldwide, and raising $+1m on Kickstarter, Oxalis collaborated with Lumenate to translate their early concepts into a reliable and scalable wearable product, transitioning from a prototype to a production-ready product.

The Delivery

Oxalis led the electronics hardware design and PCB development, carrying out iterative prototyping and validation from a first prototype platform to a CE-certified and production-ready, taking Lumenate from initial architecture to mass production. In addition to the hardware platform, Oxalis led the initial firmware development and supported Lumenate’s team with the final production code. In parallel, Oxalis worked closely with manufacturing partners and developed the end-of-line test protocol to deliver quality at scale.

More Than Design

Beyond engineering delivery, Oxalis played an active role in influencing the user experience through the development of an discovery platform, which would lead to a feedback-driven final production device. A platform with adjustable hardware allowed Lumenate to test various parameters with real users, enabling rapid iterations based on direct user feedback. This collaborative, user-centred approach helped guide technical decisions to be guided through real-world experience, resulting in a product that balances performance, safety, and user comfort.
